St. Luke’s Church-1sf

Historic St. Luke’s Church, circa 1632 in Isle of Wight County, Va., is the oldest existing church of English foundation in America and the nation's only surviving, original Gothic building. It forms a unique bridge between the early civilization of our country and the rich culture of medieval England. In it we see an architectural and spiritual descendent of the great Gothic cathedrals of England as reflected in the small parish churches of such English counties as Essex, Surrey and Gloucestershire. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, and many other of our great patriots, must have knelt here before the altar and asked for guidance on their passage to or from Williamsburg, as they slowly shaped the momentous destiny of a nation not yet in being.

My Photograph was taken showing some of the very old graves throughout the landscape and I applied a slight Soft Focus to add to the mood.
